BA ECONOMICS

Department of Economics was established in the year 2015.The Department was designed to offer an undergraduate course in Economics enfolding Political Science and Indian History as its complementary courses. B.A. Economics termed as First Degree Programme under the Choice Based Credit and Semester System in Economics, spreads into six semesters. Three batches have already left the portals of the Department, imbibing the essence to mark their worth as human beings, cherishing and nurturing the values of life and proving their mettle in various capacities. Most of the alumni are pursuing their higher studies in reputed Institutions.The great vision, unflinching commitment, eminence and scholarship of the faculty tinged with their love, concern and individual attention to their wards which transformed and shaped the students is considered as the hall mark of the Department.Sincere interventions in the social life of the Local community through Socio-economic Surveysfor preparing projects on relevant topics need special remark. The topics like Educated unemployment, Women empowerment through Kudumbasree, Demonetisation and its impact on the society,Addictions among students, Financial literacy and growth of online banking, Socio-Economic and welfare measures of Industrial workers, Socio-Economic issues of street vendors after the implementation of Demonetisation and GST etc., are a few to mention.

*To discover the latent potential and hidden talents of the budding economists and help them to render their valuable services for Nation building through various capacities and equip them to lead  meaningful lives.


1.The Department organised Two Days’ International webinar on the theme Intellectual Property Rights. Dr.Deepa V K, Research Officer, Institute of Public Health, Bangalore was the Resource person. The first day topic for discussion was Intellectual Property Rights: An Introductory Discussion. And on the second day the webinar focused on the topic, “ Protection of traditional Knowledge through IPR : A Policy perspective. There were 80 participants throughout the sessions.

2.The department conducted Mar Ivanios All India Inter collegiate Quiz competition on March 15,2021 at 2 p.m. through Google meet. Dr. Sunil Abraham Thomas from the Dept. of Economics, UC College, Aluva was the Quiz Master. We received 80 registrations.

3.The Department organised an All Kerala Paper presentation competition on the topic,” Covid 19 Pandemic: Economic impacts and challenges on Kerala Economy” on 16 th March, 2021 at 10. 30 a.m.. We received 18 entries. But after scrutiny, we selected 8 papers from Five colleges for final presentation.
